Introduction

The Textile Alliance Scholarship has been established by The Lees Charitable Foundation Ltd. in 2007.  This prestigious scholarship allows a high achieving Chinese student the opportunity to study full time for a one year Masters programme in a Design discipline at Middlesex University in London and reach his/her full potentials.

The selected candidate is expected to make a positive contribution to the community of Hong Kong and act as ambassador for the Foundation and Middlesex University after the completion of his/her studies.

Availability of the Scholarship

One scholarship per year for masters programmes commencing September/October of each year.   The scholarship is open to all full-time masters programme in the Art and Design discipline.

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship, worth over GBP16,000 (over HK$195,000 at the current exchange rate), covers the full value of the tuition fee of a masters’ programme in the Art and Design discipline to be studied full-time on-campus at Middlesex University in London.  It also includes GBP6,000 contribution towards the student’s living expenses.

The successful student remains responsible for meeting the cost of all other expenses (such as study materials, living costs, accommodation and passages) incurred in excess of the scholarship value.

Eligibility and Criteria

Applicants should:

  • be a Chinese national normally residing in China or the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for the 7 years preceding 1 October of the commencement year of study;
  • be classified as full-fee paying international student;
  • demonstrate that your programme of study will be of benefit to your future employment and the community of Hong Kong and/or China;
  • demonstrate academic achievement, which exceeds the entry requirements for the programme to which you are applying - see University’s prospectus or website for individual programmes entrance requirements - (Note: the scholarship award will only be confirmed when the candidate has been offered a place at the University.);
  • be able to fund the remaining costs of their studies at Middlesex (e.g. study materials, living costs, accommodation, air passages etc) from other sources.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants should normally have the following:

  • A second class honours degree or above in a relevant subject.
  • A satisfactory portfolio.
  • Some programmes may require a research proposal.
  • IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Method of Application

Applicants should submit a scholarship application letter, together with the Masters programme application, and with not more than 500 words asking to be considered for the scholarship and outlining “How your programme of study will of be benefit to your future employment and the community of China/Hong Kong.

Applicants should submit the complete application with all supporting materials to the East Asia Regional Office of Middlesex University by the deadline as stated below.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received at the East Asia Regional Office of Middlesex University by 5.00pm, the last Friday in May of the entrance year.  Late application will not be considered.

Selection Interview

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a selection interview.

The winner will be announced in July.
